Djavan’s musical richness and inspiring story come to the stage with “Djavan, O Musical: Vidas pra Contar,” a show that celebrates the life and work of one of the most acclaimed artists in Brazilian music. Created by Gustavo Nunes, with artistic direction by João Fonseca and written by Patrícia Andrade and Rodrigo França, the musical is set to premiere on June 5th at Teatro Multiplan, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. The musical direction is by João Viana and Fernando Nunes, ensuring a vibrant soundtrack that is faithful to the artist’s rhythmic diversity.
Lasting approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, the show delves into Djavan's trajectory, from his humble origins in Maceió to his consecration as one of the great names of MPB, bringing to the public not only his most remarkable songs but also the challenges and overcoming that shaped his journey.
The musical’s dramaturgy explores the richness of styles present in the artist’s work – which ranges from jazz, samba, Afro-Brazilian rhythms and pop –, in addition to highlighting the strength of his lyrics, which speak of love, friendship, overcoming and hope. This emotional connection, present in his songs, will be transported to the stage in an engaging way, creating a unique experience for the audience.
In addition to the music, the show promises an impressive visual show, with choreography, sets and costumes that exude Brazilianness, reinforcing the cultural identity present in Djavan's work.
According to Gustavo Nunes, “The vast work of Djavan, one of the greatest geniuses of Brazilian music of all time, deserves to be told on stage, not only for its poetry and musicality, but also for serving as an inspiration as a synonym for perseverance and determination. Djavan brings together beauty, poetry and musicality in all his compositions. Our musical draws from this source to bring the audience a vibrant show, full of Brazilianness and emotion.”
With a career that transcends generations and borders, Djavan has established himself as one of the most influential artists in Brazilian music. Now, his story comes to life on stage in a musical that promises to move and celebrate his legacy.
