Synopsis

Antônia (Juliana Linhares) was born in Carneirinhos, where her family owns a small farm. Ever since she was a child, she dreamed of becoming a singer. Against her father’s wishes, she moves to Rio de Janeiro to pursue her dream. But things don’t go as planned.

After years of struggling to establish herself as a performer, Antônia is still singing in bars just to make ends meet. It’s in one of those bars that she meets Johnny (Hamilton Dias), an American who loves Brazilian music and is learning Portuguese.

​

The two grow closer, and just as their romance begins to blossom, Tônia receives a phone call from her sister, Cidinha (Dani Câmara), saying their father wants her to come home for the Santo Antônio Festival. She decides to accept her father Seu Cris’ (Bruno Garcia) invitation and returns to Carneirinhos. Johnny joins her on the trip—it’s an opportunity for him to learn more about the country he so admires.

Returning home stirs something in Antônia. She reconnects with her family, with Fafá (Natasha Jascalevich), the farm’s do-it-all helper, and with Paixão (Daniel Carneiro), her old flame. To make things even more complicated, on the day of the Santo Antônio Festival, Tônia discovers that Paixão is engaged to Cidinha. As if her personal and professional crises weren't enough, she begins to wonder: Was leaving worth it? Where does she truly belong? Who is she, really? An unexpected event will lead her to understand who she truly is and what truly matters in her life.

Céu Estrelado dives into the rich world of Brazilian folk music to tell Antônia’s story, reflecting on our roots, our land, and the importance of preserving the environment—both in Brazil and across the planet, our true home.
